Worried about injuries#

As I’ve mentioned in my brevet report, during the first 400 of the year, I had some serious pain in my left knee. I had to take some painkillers to make it through the Brevet and afterwards walking and specially going up/down stairs was painful.

My knee got swollen (not a lot, but enough to be noticeable by looking at it) and still today I’m not fully recovered.

So I’m getting worried about it. What if I’ve damaged something there, something that may prevent me from doing the next brevets?

I talked about it with several friends, both cyclists and not-cyclists and I’ve tried to get an appointment with a phisiotherapist/osteopath. The problem is all clinics around here are super busy. I’ve got two recommendations of good clinics. One gave me an appointment for May 30th (bad, this is after both the next 400 - 13th May - and the first 600 - 27th May). The other clinic gave me an appointment for the 11th of May (bad, as I’ll have to wait still one week from now and it is actually the day before the start of the 400).

While I sort out the medical appointments, I’m resting. I’m not doing any cycling at all, to give my knee some time to heal from whatever it is. I’m also trying to find out what may have caused it, but I’ve a strong suspect there.

Yeah, my new shoe cleats.

I’m sure that’s the root cause of all this. I’ve checked again them last night and I re-positioned them, looking carefully at the marks on the shoes and some pictures I’ve from the old cleats before replacing them.

I’ve found out that the left shoe cleat was indeed a bit tilted, causing my heel to point outwards. Which is what every cyclist friend is telling me that cause this kind of pain.

I’m going to rest 1 or 2 days more before going for a test ride, but I really, really hope this is the cause, and not some serious injury there.
